The First Thread belongs to the protagonist of the web novel, the thread around which the entire story is structured. The Second Thread, by contrast, is the fate-line that runs alongside it: the destiny of a character who is woven into the story but is not its axis. It carries its own weight, its own trajectory, and its own potential for rupture.

The threads are not merely symbolic. Characters who possess sufficient system-level understanding can perceive them as luminous filaments in the air, feel the tension when a fate is being pulled, and in extreme cases, cut or redirect them. The Second Thread's existence implies that the narrative is not a single monologue but a dialogue between at least two destinies, each with its own logic and momentum. This is what makes the fate system in ORV feel less like a script and more like a living, breathing web.

As the story progresses and characters begin to break free from their written roles, the Second Thread becomes a symbol of the space between authorial intent and character agency. It is the thread that says: you are in this story, but you are not merely a function of the first thread's drama. Your fate has its own shape, and it can be reshaped.

In Their Own Story

The air in the ruined cathedral tasted of iron and old paper. Kim Dokja knelt on the cracked marble, his fingers trailing through the empty space where the thread should have been. It was there—he could feel it, a faint vibration like a plucked string three rooms away—but it was not where the novel said it would be. The First Thread, thick and golden, ran from Yoo Joonghyuk's chest to the horizon, unbroken, absolute. Reader's Guide

The Second Thread is not a skill in the way a combat ability or a system-granted buff would be. It is a structural element of the fate system—the secondary destiny-line that runs alongside the First Thread (the primary protagonist's fate) within the narrative framework of *The Second Coming of the Gods*.

Primary user(s): It is not 'used' by a single character. It is the fate-line itself, experienced and perceived by characters who have fate-sight or sufficient system-level awareness. Its effects are felt by the character whose destiny it represents and by anyone whose thread intersects with it.

Mechanical effect: As a fate-thread, it dictates the trajectory of its bearer's role within the story. It can be perceived as a visible filament, felt as tension or resonance, and in extreme narrative moments, redirected or severed. It does not grant combat power; it grants narrative weight. Characters bound to it find their actions pulling toward the thread's trajectory, and deviation from it carries a cost.

Tier or level: Not formally tiered. It exists at the same ontological level as the First Thread but carries a secondary narrative priority.

How obtained: It is not acquired. It is inherent to a character's place within the web novel's fate-structure. It exists as long as the narrative exists.

Most narratively significant moment: The Second Thread's full weight becomes felt when characters begin to question whether their fates are fixed or whether the story can be rewritten. The moment a character perceives their own thread deviating from its written path—and chooses to follow the deviation rather than the script—is the moment the Second Thread stops being a passive line and becomes an active force of agency against the narrative.
